Senior Staff Backend Engineer (d/f/m)

In this role you will help build and scale the Shipping domain for a global ecommerce platform. You will design and implement backend solutions within a fast-paced, product-focused team, shaping the technical roadmap and guiding the engineering culture. You’ll work on features for millions of sellers and buyers, aligning with cross-functional partners to deliver reliable shipping experiences. This is an opportunity to influence system design at scale in a collaborative, technically rigorous environment.

• Translate product problems into cross-component solutions and document designs
• Lead architectural decisions and influence technical direction beyond the team
• Define and uphold engineering standards, coding guidelines, and technical culture
• Mentor engineers through design reviews and structured feedback
• Develop and maintain scalable server-side applications in Java/Spring Boot; perform code reviews
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers to plan milestones and deliver features
• Maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and address performance bottlenecks

• Bachelor’s in CS or related field
• Extensive experience in designing and developing scalable web applications in Agile/Scrum with modern CI/CD
• Proven experience building scalable backend systems with Java/Spring Boot; familiarity with Kotlin and Prometheus Query Language is a plus
• Experience building RESTful APIs, event-driven systems, and microservices architectures
• Proficiency with relational and/or NoSQL databases and testing (unit, integration, end-to-end)
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code) is a strong plus
• Experience influencing technical direction and mentoring engineers
