Sr. Data Steward (Data Governance)

Job Overview

The Data Steward will collaborate on the design and implementation of data governance and quality solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives, value streams, and maximizing long‑term technology investment, to ensure compliance with project requirements. The Data Steward will work closely with Business Sponsors, Business Data Owners and Stewards, Business and Technical subject matter experts, Enterprise Architects, and Technology leaders to implement data quality checks and capture business process knowledge based on Data Governance standards and processes, while contributing to the overall data roadmap.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with Competencies, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements.
  • Create data profiling methods that can be applied to a variety of data structures and be leveraged by data analysts, business stewards and subject matter experts for self‑service data profiling.
  • Build data profiles and identify insights from the profiles. Review profiles with project leaders, data quality and governance analysts, business data stewards, and technology subject matter experts.
  • Creating and maintaining data quality metrics for data assets based on the business rules coordinated by Project Managers and Project Data SMEs.
  • Create and maintain data quality monitoring of identified data quality metrics for data assets. Work closely with Business Data Stewards, Data Quality Analysts, Project Data SMEs to identify the best frequency for measuring quality.
  • Assist with maintaining a centralized DGO dashboard summarizing the status of data governance and data quality for data assets.
  • Design data quality remediation procedures and scripts in partnership with business unit functional areas and the Technology department to ensure that data quality issues are implemented in source systems.
  • Identify and classify PII or Restricted data in the Data Governance Tool and follow the Personally Identifiable Information (PII) Data Inventory Standard.
  • Identify Data Owner(s) and Steward(s) of data areas.
  • Document database column‑level metadata for all data that is created or stored, including data element name, technical name, location, definition, data type, and sample data; create a plan if documentation does not exist.
  • Identify and log Critical Data Elements (CDEs) in the data governance tool with business definition and technical metadata.
  • Document column‑level lineage with transformation logic mapped in the Data Governance Tool.
  • Collaborate with Data Owners, Business Data Stewards, Data Governance and Quality Analysts, Business and Tech SMEs to ensure proper retention practices are followed in accordance with the Data Purging Standard.
  • Demonstrate the DGO operating model to Business Data Stewards and the data community to enable them to implement data governance and quality practices in a self‑service manner.
  • Deliver training and answer questions from Business Data Stewards regarding the functionality of data governance related tools and proper usage.
  • Partner with vendors and the Technology department to build source system integrations, participate in timely implementation of patches and upgrades led by Technology, coordinate system and user‑acceptance testing, and drive resolution of system issues for DGO‑owned platforms.

Deliverables

  • Domain‑specific Data Governance and Quality artifacts
  • Design and implement Data Quality rules, monitoring, reporting, and remediation solutions
  • Aligned solutions to BECU Data Governance, Design and Technology standards (e.g., SDLC, Cybersecurity, Quality Engineering)
  • Risk, decision, action item and issue log(s)
  • Updates to communication and change management plans
  • Status reports in the form and frequency requested by Customer
  • Knowledge transfer to BECU FTE(s) with supporting documents

Qualifications

  • Ability to work the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Pacific Time
  • 5 years of data quality development experience (required)
  • 3 years of data governance experience (required)
  • Experience with data management tools (Informatica, Collibra, Purview, etc.)
  • Proficient writing and reading SQL
  • Experience working with relational SQL databases (Oracle, MS SQL)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead initiatives/small projects
  • Strong understanding of data quality and governance frameworks
  • Experience with metric‑driven data governance
  • Strong analytical, conceptual and problem‑solving skills with a proven track record in gathering and documenting comprehensive business requirements in a highly regulated environment
  • Familiarity with developing and performing data manipulation, data cleansing, data analysis, and data anomaly detection (preferred)

Pay

Pay :

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Fractal, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $120,000 to $130,000. In addition, for the current performance period, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
