At the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES, the energy transition becomes a reality every day. Our focus topics are offshore wind energy, hydrogen, test infrastructure and digitisation.

About the Role

You will be part of the "Drivetrain Testing" group at our Bremerhaven site. The team focuses on the operation of test benches, integration of test specimens, measurement technology, and execution of tests in close collaboration with industrial customers. You will also contribute to our research projects on powertrain technology.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work on the research project "NextGen" to test and validate a disruptive generator topology for wind turbines using our test rig.
  • Develop a user interface for integrating real‑time measurement data, including data pre‑ and post‑processing and data management.
  • Implement backend data‑processing methods to derive machine condition and operating status.
  • Create a frontend dashboard and integrate both backend and frontend into the rig’s measurement and control system.
  • Experimentally test and validate the developed measurement system on the test rig.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support the development and validation activities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s student in mechanical engineering or electrical machines with a focus on electrical machines.
  • Knowledge of Python and MATLAB from studies or prior experience.
  • Interest in data processing, signal conditioning, and measurement technology.
  • Experience or interest in experimental work.
