System Engineer

In this role you design and integrate sensor systems beginning with sensor physics, spanning optical and mechanical design, firmware, and ASIC/Software interfaces. You will drive system concepts for optical LiDAR, spectrometers, and new detector technologies within industrial sensing and communications. You’ll model sensor behavior, define specs from customer needs, manage projects, and validate hardware and software through hands-on lab work. You’ll contribute to production processes, documentation, and Broadcom’s patent portfolio, shaping cross-functional architectures with global teams.

• Design and integrate sensor systems from physics to firmware and optics/mechanics
• Lead system engineering for optical LiDAR, spectrometers, and detectors
• Model sensor physics and develop signal-processing algorithms
• Define system specifications based on customer requirements
• Plan and manage projects: work packages, schedules, budgets, status reports
• Perform hands-on validation and laboratory characterization of electrical and optical systems
• Contribute to system concept development bridging architectures with ASIC/Software definitions
• Collaborate on production processes with suppliers and manufacturing partners
• Compile product documentation, specifications, and application notes
• Contribute to Broadcom patent portfolio

• 5+ years in optoelectronic industrial R&D
• Strong background in optical semiconductor design, sensor physics, processing, and production
• Experience with embedded systems and/or IC design and testing
• Software algorithm definition, implementation, and testing (education/automation of measurement routines)
• Prototyping and electrical/optical characterization laboratory experience
• Ability to work across electronics, optics, mechanics, and communications domains
• Proficiency in English (verbal and written); prepared to learn German and improve communication
• Understanding of structured project management methodologies
• Experience with lab testing and GUI-based test development
• Hands-on experience with scripting languages (Python) and/or C++, C#
• Familiarity with production process definitions with suppliers and contract manufacturers
