Systems Engineer, Managed Operations - Jobbird.com

AWS is preparing its inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC) and is looking for experienced systems engineers to lead cloud operations for EU customers. The role will involve building and managing high‑availability services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, while collaborating with AWS global teams to shape cloud technology.

Responsibilities

Oversee the launch of ESC in 2025 and work closely with global AWS teams to influence AWS services and technology. Typical day-to-day tasks include:

• Collaborating with technology leaders to enhance day‑to‑day operations.
• Improving availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of ESC.
• Resolving less time‑sensitive issues for software systems and diagnosing Linux and networking problems.
• Supporting on‑call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out‑of‑hours.

Eligibility Requirements

• Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
• Must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU.
• Amazon will provide relocation support for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science (or related IT discipline) or equivalent industry experience.
• Knowledge or experience troubleshooting Linux and networking issues; ability to diagnose and resolve problems affecting the performance, reliability, and availability of software systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating services in AWS or other cloud systems.
• Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability distributed applications; performance tuning; optimizing fleet utilization and monitoring frameworks such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools such as CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or similar.
