Systems Engineer - Physical Products

As a Systems Engineer / Architect at Helsing, you design and implement complex mechatronic and software-defined systems, bridging AI software with high-performance hardware. You will shape system architecture across hardware and software domains while actively integrating and validating in lab and field environments. You’ll work with mechanical, electrical, and AI teams using MBSE to manage subsystems and interfaces, ensuring on-time, high-quality delivery. This role combines hands-on lab work with architectural leadership in a mission-driven, ethically conscious defence context.

• Develop and own system architecture for multi-domain platforms (e.g., drones, sensor pods, ground support systems)
• Manage system model using MBSE tools (Cameo, Enterprise Architect) and SysML to document behaviors and interfaces
• Physically integrate mechatronic systems in lab and field, testing and debugging hardware/software
• Lead multidisciplinary trade-off analyses (e.g., SWaP-C) to select scalable architectures
• Translate architectures into subsystem specifications and ICDs
• Conduct system-level testing, analyze data, and drive rapid design iterations
• Collaborate daily with software, hardware, and AI teams to ensure alignment
• Identify trends and propose structural solutions for defence systems with AI integration

• 4+ years in systems engineering/architecture for mechatronic, defence, aerospace, or autonomous systems
• Practical MBSE and SysML experience, plus requirements management
• Builder mindset with lab experience, reading schematics, 3D CAD, basic diagnostics
• Knowledge bridging physical engineering with software/AI architectures
• University degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Business fluency in English; German is a strong asset
