Traffic Safety Officer

Location: Site based role. Base depot: Jepson Way, Blackpool, FY4 5FH.

Reporting to: Traffic Safety Manager.

Contract type: Permanent (subject to successful completion of a 3‑month probationary period).

Working hours: 42.5 hours per week.
Monday – Thursday: 07:00 – 16:30 (inclusive of unpaid breaks)
Friday: 07:00 – 15:30 (inclusive of unpaid breaks)

Remuneration

£14.91 – £16.14 per hour, depending on experience

Holidays

29 days, including bank holidays (7 days are to be taken at the Christmas shutdown).

Roles & Responsibilities

Load and unload traffic management vehicles with signage and devices safely and in an organised manner.
Accurately complete Daily Traffic Management Site Check Sheets, ensuring that all variations, modifications, or adjustments to a traffic management scheme are fully recorded and authorised.
Record signage and devices used per job via daily diary.
Measure distance accurately using vehicle odometer, measuring wheel, or other reliable means.
Layout a traffic management scheme in accordance with basic rules, using a generic Traffic Control Diagram (TCD) or formal traffic management plan (TMP).
Complete Site Hazard Assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
Regularly complete site checks, monitoring traffic behaviour or flow to maintain safety at all times.
Follow instructions from supervisors, managers, or MWRA inspectors, auditors or officials.
Drive and tow, including extended reversing with an arrow board or VMB (Visual Message Board).
Care for and maintain traffic management vehicle signage and devices.
Fill and load sandbags.
Clean traffic management vehicles and signage at the end of shift.
Perform all other duties to control traffic, pedestrians and cyclists, protecting maintenance workers, work crews and members of the public.
Constantly patrol allocated sites to ensure traffic and pedestrian management remain suitable throughout the working day.
Inspect sites at the start and end of every working day.
When passing by other allocated sites, assume responsibility as an TSO on behalf of George Cox Ltd.
Collect and return to the compound or depot any surplus signs, cones, heras fencing, barriers, etc.
Ensure barriers are bagged in straight lines, interlocked or tied together to prevent removal.
Assist in educating the workforce that barriers and fencing must remain closed at all times.
Monitor the site to clear away any trip hazards.
Establish “CCTV In Operation” signs at each end of working areas wherever practicable.
