Offer Description

Trier University engages in socially relevant research and teaching at the cutting edge, with a strong focus on digitalization, interdisciplinarity and diversity. The focus of this research is on the relationship between individuals and the social, legal, economic and environmental contexts in which they live. With over 10,000 students and around 2,000 employees, Trier University is one of the largest employers in the European border region of Trier. Short distances on a green campus, a lively academic life and an open-minded working culture offer many opportunities to achieve meaningful outcomes.

In Department I of the University of Trier, the following position is to be filled starting 1. October 2027 in the field of nursing science as a temporary civil servant (“Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit”):

W1 junior professorship in nursing science with a focus on clinical nursing

with tenure track to W2 (LBesG) (m/f/x)

If the requirements for civil service status are not met, employment under a regular employment contract may be offered.

The position holder will represent the field specified in the dedication in research and teaching.

This junior professorship is aimed at young scientists in the early stages of their careers who show exceptional potential for a further career in science.

The position holder will represent nursing science with a particular focus on clinical nursing in research and teaching. The focus covers all relevant care settings (acute inpatient care, rehabilitation, long-term care) and is embedded in the profile-building focus areas of Trier University in the field of health.

The mission of the professorship is the scientific development of nursing practice in accordance with § 33 PflAPrV in conjunction with § 37 PflBG (care of people with dementia, chronic wounds, and diabetic metabolic conditions), as well as corresponding research and publications in one or more of these areas. A commitment to addressing these topics on an ongoing basis in research, teaching, and examinations is required.

As part of the teaching and examination responsibilities, a special commitment is required to collaborate with partners in academic nursing education, as well as to design, to implement, and to develop state examinations in the Clinical Nursing degree program leading to bachelor’s degree. In addition, active participation in the conceptual development of nursing-related bachelor’s and master’s degree programs is expected.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate outstanding academic potential through their dissertation and initial scholarly publications in high-impact journals. Candidates are also expected to be able to develop an independent, research-driven profile in evidence-based care, competency development, and/or interprofessional collaboration that aligns with the university-wide profile, particularly in the cross-cutting dimensions of resilience and the transformation of nursing care through academization and nursing research.

In addition, teaching and examination experience in accordance with the PflBG/PflAPrV, practical experience in patient care in at least one of the areas mentioned, and excellent knowledge of academic nursing education in Germany are desirable. Knowledge of advanced nursing practice in an international context, as well as experience in interprofessional or transfer-oriented research and teaching projects, is an asset.

The job responsibilities are set forth in Section 48 of the Higher Education Act (HochSchG). In addition to the hiring requirements specified in § 54 HochSchG for this position, authorization to use the professional title is required under § 1, § 58(1) and (2), or § 64 of the Nursing Professions Act. Requirements include, among other things, a successfully completed university degree in a nursing science program (nursing science, nursing education, or similar) as well as a qualified doctoral degree in this field. The ability to teach courses in German is expected.

Pursuant to §§ 54 and 55 HochSchG, junior professorships are generally filled for a term of six years. An evaluative review, intended to provide guidance on performance in teaching, research, or the arts, takes place no earlier than after the third year of employment and no later than the end of the fourth year of employment.

Following the term of the junior professorship, the above-mentioned professorship (pay scale W 2, LBesG) is to be permanently conferred if the incumbent has proven himself or herself in accordance with the relevant higher education regulations (evaluation procedures) and meets the general civil service and personal requirements. Reference is made in this context to § 50(5), sentence 6 HochSchG.

The State of Rhineland-Palatinate and the University of Trier adhere to a supervision model that requires a high level of faculty presence on campus. The University of Trier is committed to increasing the number of female employees and strongly encourages women to apply. People with severe disabilities and those deemed equivalent under Section 2(3) of SGB IX will be given preferential consideration if they are suitably qualified (please include proof).
