Position

The University of Lübeck seeks applications for a W1 TT W2 professorship in Data Synthesis and Foundation Models in Medicine. The position is a fixed-term civil service position, initially for three years with an option to extend for an additional three years, leading to a tenured W2 position upon a positive evaluation. Please note Sections 62 and 64 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Schleswig-Holstein (HSG).

Your responsibilities

• Represent and advance the field of data synthesis or foundation models in medicine in research and teaching.
• Possess a PhD and a track record of outstanding scientific achievements in one of the areas specified.
• Generation of synthetic textual, tabular, or multimodal medical data.
• AI-based analysis using foundation models in medicine.
• Contribute to multimodal language and text processing using Large Language Models and AI-based methods for semantic integration and structuring of medical data.
• Ensure data security while making medical data usable for research purposes.
• Demonstrate or develop external funding, participate in interdisciplinary research consortia, and collaborate with clinical and industrial project partners where possible.
• Expand or establish new research focus areas and, if applicable, open up new clinical application areas in collaboration with medical professionals.
• Contribute to establishing an independent research group at the Institute for Medical Informatics.

Qualifications

• PhD and a track record of outstanding scientific achievements in data synthesis, foundation models in medicine, or related areas.
• Scientific expertise in multimodal language and text processing using large language models.
• AI-based methods for semantic integration and structuring of medical data; methods to make medical data usable for research while ensuring data security.
• Preference for applicants with a proven ability to secure external funding, participate in interdisciplinary research consortia, and collaborate with clinical and industrial partners.
• Willingness to contribute to teaching in the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs in Medical Informatics, and to promote interdisciplinary collaboration across medicine and life sciences.
