Workforce Planning & Metrics Advisor

As a Workforce Planning and Metrics Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of Strategic Workforce Planning across the organisation. Working within our newly established Strategic Workforce Planning team, you will help bring workforce data to life by transforming information into clear, actionable insights that support strategic decision making.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of people, data and organisational strategy. You will analyse workforce information, produce reports and dashboards, identify emerging trends and support the development of workforce plans that addresses workforce challenges and anticipate future needs.

Using tools such as Excel, Power BI and other analytical platforms, you will help maintain high-quality workforce information, develop reporting solutions and support continuous improvements in workforce planning processes. You will also work closely with colleagues across the People team and wider organisational teams to build a strong understanding of workforce priorities and contribute to innovative workforce planning solutions.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems and communicating complex information in a simple and engaging way. Whether you are producing insightful reports, supporting workforce planning activities or helping colleagues understand workforce trends, your contribution will directly support the organisation's ability to plan for the future.

As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to the nearest NRW office to your home and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

Our purpose is to provide the workforce intelligence, analysis and planning expertise that enables the organisation to understand its current workforce, anticipate future workforce needs and respond effectively to changing demands. We work closely with leaders, HR professionals and stakeholders across the organisation to develop evidence-based workforce plans that support organisational priorities and future service delivery.

As we establish and embed Strategic Workforce Planning, we are developing innovative approaches to workforce analytics, reporting and planning. Data, insight and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do, helping ensure decisions are informed by robust evidence and a clear understanding of workforce trends, risks and opportunities.

What you will do

  • Support the delivery of Strategic Workforce Planning activities by preparing workforce information and contributing to planning output
  • Assist in maintaining workforce planning tools and approaches to support consistent planning across the organisation
  • Contribute to workforce planning cycles, including supporting workshops, stakeholder engagement activity and follow up actions
  • Work with colleagues to identify emerging workforce themes, risks and priorities
  • Produce clear and accessible reports, dashboards and summaries to support all Strategic Workforce Planning activity
  • Use statistical tools such as Excel, Power BI, and Minitab to analyse data, creating dashboards and reports for organisational specialists and leaders. Identify trends and patterns and provide recommendations to improve people policies and practices.
  • Translate workforce information into meaningful insight that can inform strategic workforce plans
  • Support the development of regular workforce reporting and planning outputs
  • Maintain workforce information and ensure it is accurate, up to date and aligned with organisational standards
  • Support the review and improvement of workforce information and reporting processes
  • Work with colleagues to resolve information issues and improve consistency and reliability
  • Contribute to guidance and documentation that supports effective use of workforce planning
  • Identify opportunities to improve workforce planning solutions (including early careers), tools and ways of working
  • Support research and gathering of information relating to workforce trends, skills and organisational priorities
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of workforce planning approaches and outputs
  • Provide guidance to colleagues on understanding and using workforce information and reports
  • Build effective working relationships across the organisation
  • Support collaboration between workforce planning, HR and people related teams
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy , together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post
  • Be committed to your own development through the effective use of your personal development plan (known as "Sgwrs").
  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

  • Degree in a relevant subject or a good grounding in data management or computer science.
  • CIPD qualified (Level 5 Intermediate)/Associate Member of the CIPD or equivalent level professional qualification or experience in workforce planning.
  • Experience of working with information, reporting or analysis in a professional environment
  • Ability to interpret information and present clear, practical insight to support decision making
  • Knowledge and experience of using statistical packages for analysing data and able to present findings (Excel, SPSS, SAS, Power BI, Miro, etc)
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and accessible way
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-orientated environment while supporting managers on strategic workforce planning.

  • Essential: Level A1 - Entry level
