    This role offers the opportunity to lead API strategy and development for enterprise-scale, 24x7 solutions used by hundreds of thousands of end users. The API Lead will collaborate closely with product owners, architects, engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver high-performing, secure, and scalable APIs. You will help shape technical direction, enforce best practices, and ensure quality across all API initiatives. This position requires hands-on technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership. The ideal candidate thrives in an agile, fast-paced environment, drives continuous improvement, and balances innovation with operational excellence.

    Accountabilities

    • Serve as liaison between product, architecture, and development teams, ensuring clear technical direction and alignment with business goals.
    • Lead API strategy and implementation across large-scale modernization projects.
    • Collaborate with product owners to ensure user stories reflect technical best practices and appropriate detail.
    • Coordinate projects with engineering and operations teams to minimize impact on application development.
    • Promote continuous improvement through coaching, pair programming, code reviews, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
    • Ensure adherence to architectural and security guidelines, governance policies, and compliance standards.
    • Communicate effectively with senior leadership and other development teams.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
    • 5+ years of experience as an API Lead with hands-on experience in large-scale technology projects.
    • Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
    • Hands-on experience with API gateways and implementing API service architectures (e.g., REST).
    • Expertise in API design standards, patterns, and best practices (e.g., Swagger, Microservices).
    • Knowledge of applying security best practices to API platforms (OAuth, TLS, throttling).
    • Strong programming experience in Java, Python, and JavaScript.
    • Experience with AWS technologies and services (S3, DynamoDB, EC2, Lambda, CloudFormation, etc.).
    • Experience in PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS environments.
    • Familiarity with OWASP and secure coding practices.
    • Experience with ERP tools; Workday experience is a plus.
    • Ability to travel up to 10%.
