The European Southern Observatory (ESO) is offering several positions for Electronics Engineers, Junior Electronics Engineers, and an Electronics Technician at the Garching, BY, Germany location. The monthly salary range is €4 000 – €10 000. 
Responsibilities 
- Design, development, assembly, and integration of analog and digital electronic circuits and systems. 
 - PLC‑based automation for instrumentation and telescope subsystems (Beckhoff TwinCAT, Siemens S7 1500). 
 - Development of mixed‑signal PCBs and embedded firmware. 
 - System testing, validation, and integration campaigns. 
 - Assembly and wiring of electronic components and cabinets, including cryogenic applications. 
 - Technical support in cleanroom and laboratory environments. 
 - Documentation, specification writing, and participation in design reviews. 
 - Coordination with suppliers, consortia, and external partners across Europe. 
 - Contribution to quality and safety processes, including EMC compliance and tests. 
  
Qualifications 
Electronics Engineer (Experienced)  
- University degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. 
 - Knowledge of analog/digital circuit design and tools (Altium Designer, PSpice). 
 - Experience with PLC based Control Systems. 
 - Familiarity with embedded systems and microcontrollers. 
 - Strong troubleshooting skills and experience with laboratory instrumentation. 
 - Experience or interest in programming (Python, C/C++, VHDL/Verilog). 
 - Excellent written and spoken English. 
 - Minimum 3 years relevant work experience. 
  
Junior Electronics Engineer  
- Recent graduate or early‑career engineer. 
 - Basic knowledge of circuit design and PCB layout. 
 - Hands‑on experience with embedded firmware and test equipment. 
 - Strong motivation to learn and work in an international team. 
 - Excellent written and spoken English. 
  
Electronics Technician  
- State‑certified electronics technician qualification or equivalent. 
 - Practical experience with soldering, cable assembly, and fine mechanics or optics work. 
 - Familiarity with cleanroom environments and ESD protocols. 
 - Comfortable using laboratory equipment for testing and diagnostics. 
 - Excellent teamwork and documentation skills. 
 - Excellent written and spoken English. 
  
Benefits 
ESO offers a competitive salary, comprehensive pension scheme, medical coverage, educational support, and relocation assistance. The initial contract is a fixed‑term International Staff Member for three years or a Paid Associate for one year, with possible extensions based on performance.
