Engineering Manager (m/f/x)

Overview

Engineering Manager (m/f/x) at HelloBetter – you lead one of our Engineering squads (currently 6 people) and work across teams to deliver both our product and technical roadmap while minimizing technical debt.

Location: Remote-first (relocation possible). Offices in Berlin, Hamburg and Potsdam are available if you prefer to work on-site.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and support a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to provide personalized support, career development guidance, and constructive feedback.
• Hiring and Team Building: Actively participate in the hiring process to identify, attract, and retain talented engineers. Foster a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
• Technical Project Management: Oversee the development of scalable, secure, and maintainable code. Ensure adherence to best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies, code reviews, and CI/CD processes.
• High-Level System Design: Lead architectural design and review processes to support scalability, reliability, and performance; champion architectural best practices and adopt innovative design solutions.
• Product Collaboration: Work with product management, design, and clinical teams to define roadmaps and deliverables, ensuring alignment between technical execution and strategic goals.
• Empowerment and Innovation: Foster a culture of continuous learning, ownership, and professional growth; create opportunities for skill development.

Qualifications

• Must Haves: Proven software engineering experience with a strong technical background in Node.js, AWS/Telekom, and React or React-Native; at least 3 years of leadership experience managing engineering teams with a track record of delivering projects; strong system design capabilities for scalable, reliable, and efficient architectures; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience with Agile methodologies and software engineering best practices; ability to lead cross-functional projects with diverse stakeholders; located in Germany and/or Europe.
• Nice to Haves: Knowledge in AI/ML; experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO 13485) for medical products; experience with TypeScript; familiarity with native build tools like XCode and Gradle; understanding regulatory compliance and its impact on engineering; bachelor’s or master’s degree in CS/Engineering or related field (required for relocation).

Salary & Benefits

• Salary Band: LS L1 93-107k (gross) plus VSOP (20% of annual gross salary)
• Location: Remote-first; relocation support; offices in Berlin and Hamburg available
