Apera Asset Management (“Apera”) is a leading pan-European mid-market private debt investor with €4.3bn of AUM with offices in London, Munich, Paris and Luxembourg. Apera’s Private Debt strategy focuses on senior secured financings in the UK, Ireland, DACH, the Nordic region, France and Benelux. Overview

Apera is seeking to add an Analyst to its Munich-based DACH investment team. The new and additional team member will support origination, due diligence and execution of private debt transactions in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The candidate will assist the investment team with all aspects of the investment process, as well as the ongoing monitoring of Apera’s investments.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Supports the deal team in conducting in-depth industry, market and company analysis which includes review of investment opportunities and risks as well as detailed financial analysis including financial models and sensitivity scenarios
  • Supports the preparation and joining the presentation of investment recommendations to the investment committee
  • Supports all aspects of deal execution
  • Reviews and analyses financial data and due diligence reports received
  • Is responsible for the financial model including development and analysis of sensitivity cases
  • Takes responsibility for specific deal-, portfolio-, reporting- and fund-related tasks and workstreams under the guidance of senior team members
  • Supports the investment team regarding the ongoing monitoring of the portfolio

Qualifications

  • Gained analytical and research experience at an investment bank, consultancy firm, advisory firm or buy-side credit or private equity institutions, e.g., by way of internships
  • Has 1-3 years of experience in direct lending or leveraged finance in a reputable bank, a direct lending fund or debt advisor
  • At least undergraduate university degree, preferably in finance, business administration or economics
  • Fundamental financial and credit analysis skills with solid grounding in math and economics; analytical rigour and number-savvy approach regarding financials and modelling

For the investment process, we require the ability to:

  1. identify key drivers of a business and industry
  2. analyse financial statements and projections, with the ability to “let the numbers speak”
  3. develop and operate financial models
  4. form a view of relative and absolute value attractiveness
  • Is a team player able to work collaboratively with team members
  • Interacts well with external counterparties (i.e. financial sponsors and advisors)
  • Has a hands-on mentality and the ability to prioritize & structure tasks in a fast-moving environment and under time pressure
  • Is a native German speaker and fluent in Business English with strong verbal and written communication skills. Further languages are appreciated.
