Overview

Postdoc - numerical methods in plasma physics (m/f/d) at Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP). IPP is a leading fusion research center with about 1100 staff in Garching and Greifswald, exploring fundamental principles of fusion power plants and their potential for sustainable energy.

Position

Postdoc - numerical methods - location: Garching or Greifswald. The position is part of IPP's postdoctoral program with two-year temporary contracts, with possible prolongation to four years, and remuneration up to salary grade 13 (TVöD Bund).

Responsibilities

  • Join to contribute to numerical methods in plasma physics within one of the largest scientific projects in Germany, working in interdisciplinary, international teams.
  • Contribute to research connected to two large-scale experiments: ASDEX Upgrade (tokamak) in Garching and Wendelstein 7-X (stellarator) in Greifswald.
  • Prepare and present research findings; engage in further education events and career planning with the Career Center for Postdocs.
  • Collaborate with scientific divisions to develop research topics and projects in plasma physics and nuclear fusion.

Qualifications

  • Recent PhD (or expecting to complete soon) in a relevant field.
  • Strong plasma physics background; expertise is a plus, but passion for nuclear fusion and a solid foundation in plasma physics are sufficient to start.
  • Ability to contribute to research topics in numerical methods for plasma physics; indicate topics of interest and desired contributions in the cover letter.
