Postdoctoral Researcher in Quantum Networking

Stellenbeschreibung:

About the SnT

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) at the University of Luxembourg is a leading international research and innovation centre in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services.

We play an instrumental role in Europe by fueling innovation through research partnerships with industry, boosting R&D investments leading to economic growth, and attracting highly qualified talent. We look for researchers from diverse academic backgrounds to contribute to our projects in areas such as: Network Security, Information Assurance, Model-driven Security, Cloud Computing, Cryptography, Satellite Systems, Vehicular Networks, and ICT Services & Applications.

Your role

The SigCom research group of SnT, headed by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas, focuses on wireless / satellite communications and networking. The research areas focus on the formulation, modeling, design, and analysis of future 6G communication networks that are capable of supporting new services for digital ecosystems. Use cases of interest include Security and Efficient Wireless Communication Solutions, IoT verticals, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Integrated Satellite-Space-Terrestrial Networks, Quantum Communications and Quantum Information Networks, Spectrum Management and Coexistence, Tactile Internet, Earth Observation, and Autonomous Transportation.

As far as technical enablers are concerned, we leverage expertise on advanced technologies including semantic / task-oriented data processing, signal processing, network resource management to improve the performance of the future wireless communication systems. Finally, due to the large-scale nature, complexity, and heterogeneity of 6G networks, for their analysis and optimization, we use tools such as artificial intelligence / machine learning, quantum computing, graph theory, graph-signal processing, and convex / non-convex optimization.

Furthermore, our activities are experimentally driven and supported by the COMMLab, the 6GSPACE Lab, the HybridNetLab, the QCILab, our SW Simulators, and our Facilities. For further information, you may refer to .

We're looking for people driven by excellence, excited about innovation, and looking to make a difference. If this sounds like you, you've come to the right place!

The successful candidate is expected to assume a leading role in defining and scientifically contributing to projects at the intersection of software-defined networking (SDN), software engineering, and quantum communications. A key focus will be the development of KMS (Key Management System) software for orchestrating QKD networks and the implementation of software frameworks based on SDN enabling the quantum internet in the light of ongoing European projects.

The candidate will play a central role in developing quantum communication protocols, designing quantum network architectures, and building SDN-enabled orchestration software to integrate classical and quantum networks. The candidate is also expected to support PhD candidates in their research activities.

The candidate will work closely with Professor Symeon CHATZINOTAS and the team members of the Signal Processing and Communications (SigCom) Research Group. English is the working language of this international laboratory, which is engaged in several European and international projects, conducting cutting-edge research in close collaboration with academic and industry partners.

Your profile

The candidate is expected to have a PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Quantum Technologies, with a focus on software‑defined networks, advanced software engineering. Candidates without a PhD are eligible for a Research and Development Position.

Required qualifications

  • Strong expertise in software‑defined networking (SDN), orchestration, and network function virtualization (NFV)
  • Proven software engineering and coding skills (e.g., C / C++, Python, Java, Go, Rust)
  • Basic understanding of quantum communication technologies, including prepare and measure, and entanglement based protocols
  • Research expertise in quantum communications, cryptography primitives, and networked quantum systems is recommended but not a must.
  • Experience in designing or implementing orchestration tools for complex networks
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory

We offer

  • Multilingual and international character. Modern institution with a personal atmosphere. Staff coming from 90 countries. Member of the "University of the Greater Region" (UniGR)
  • A modern and dynamic university. High-quality equipment. Close ties to the business world and to the Luxembourg labour market. A unique urban site with excellent infrastructure
  • A partner for society and industry. Cooperation with European institutions, innovative companies, the Financial Centre and with numerous non‑academic partners such as ministries, local governments, associations, NGOs …

How to apply

  • Curriculum Vitae
