Senior Machine Learning Engineer | Robotics & Automation | AI & Computer Vision | Cologne (Hybrid)

AI Futures have been retained to appoint a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for a leading robotics and automation company headquartered in Cologne. The organisation is driving the next generation of intelligent robotic systems; combining machine learning, computer vision, and edge AI to power autonomous industrial solutions.

This is a highly technical and impactful position, ideal for an engineer who wants to shape the AI core of a robotics product line. You’ll design, build, and deploy ML systems that enable robots to perceive, learn, and adapt in real-world environments, while collaborating closely with cross-functional product and engineering teams.

Hybrid: 2 days per week onsite in Cologne
Package: Up to €120k total compensation

The Role

• Develop and deploy ML and computer vision models for robotic perception, control, and decision-making.
• Work on end-to-end model pipelines; from data acquisition and training to real-time inference and optimisation.
• Collaborate with robotics engineers to integrate ML models into embedded and edge computing environments.
• Prototype and evaluate state-of-the-art deep learning architectures (e.g. CNNs, transformers, diffusion models).
• Drive experimentation culture within the robotics AI team and contribute to long-term AI roadmap.
• Support scalability, performance tuning, and model explainability within safety-critical systems.

The Candidate

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning, AI, or computer vision engineering.
• Proficient in Python, TensorFlow or PyTorch, and ML pipeline tools.
• Experience with robotics, embedded AI, or autonomous systems preferred.
• Skilled in data engineering, MLOps, and real-time model deployment.
• Comfortable working in agile, cross-disciplinary environments with engineers and product teams.
• Strong communication and problem-solving mindset; ability to translate complex technical work into practical outcomes.
• Languages: German and English.
