This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Pie Insurance. We are currently looking for a Senior Underwriter, Small Commercial Workers’ Compensation/Commercial Auto in United States.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead underwriting efforts for small commercial insurance policies, with a focus on commercial auto and workers’ compensation. You will assess medium to complex risks, make binding decisions, and provide technical guidance to colleagues while ensuring profitable growth and strong partner relationships. The position requires a balance of analytical expertise, industry knowledge, and excellent communication skills. Accountabilities:

• Underwrite and bind new commercial auto and workers’ compensation coverage for small business clients.
• Assess submissions against underwriting guidelines, risk exposures, and loss patterns to ensure profitable growth.
• Manage high-volume daily transactions including policy issuance, endorsements, and documentation requests.
• Provide technical support and guidance to support teams and partners regarding policy provisions and underwriting acceptability.
• Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge, including forms, coverage, ratings, and manuals.
• Participate in portfolio review and provide recommendations for book management and risk evaluation.
• Mentor and guide junior underwriters and support staff to strengthen team capabilities.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree or some college coursework preferred.
• 3–5+ years of insurance experience, with 3+ years in commercial auto underwriting (5+ years preferred).
• Strong analytical skills and ability to make risk-based decisions efficiently in a high-volume environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to convey underwriting rationale internally and externally.
• Ability to serve as a subject matter expert and provide technical guidance to colleagues.
• Strong knowledge of commercial lines, business auto, and trucking policies.
• Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving ability, and capacity to improve underwriting processes.
• Experience verifying businesses using multiple resources and databases, such as Google, Yelp, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
• Comfortable working in an iterative, evolving development environment.
