At the Automation and Sensorics in Networked Systems (ASN) Group, methods from automatic control, artificial intelligence, and networked systems are combined. A major application focus of our work are complex energy systems with a high share of decentralized, uncertain, and renewable generation. Our goal is to enable future low‑carbon energy systems that support sustainable economies.
As part of a new research project “FLOW”, methods for the integrated operation of water and energy systems are being developed. The aim is to efficiently coordinate the operation of hydropower plants by jointly considering generation, storage, and water management processes, while accounting for uncertainties in inflows, energy prices, and renewable energy infeed. Modern approaches in modeling, optimization, and data‑driven forecasting will be applied to enable robust scheduling and well‑founded operational decision‑making. The developed methods are validated through simulations as well as within a practical assistance system for control rooms. To carry out this project, we are seeking dedicated and motivated researchers.
