The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.
The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance counts over 2,700 students enrolled across four Bachelor programmes, thirteen Master programmes, doctoral studies as well as several continuing education courses. The Faculty hosts the Doctoral School of Law and the Doctoral School in Economics, Finance and Management.
Teaching and research at the FDEF benefit from the proximity of European institutions, Luxembourg’s leading international financial centre, as well as its vibrant business community. The successful candidate will strengthen the Department of Law’s research area in Banking, Financial and Commercial Law, which is a cornerstone of the Department’s academic profile and a key contributor to the University’s reputation. They will pursue research and teaching in this field, focussing on Luxembourg, EU, and comparative transnational perspectives. The position is of particular strategic relevance given the Department’s ambition to maintain its leadership in financial law, a domain central to Luxembourg’s role as a global financial centre.
The candidate will join one of Europe’s most prominent academic groups in banking and financial law, distinguished by both its intellectual strength and research output. They will actively contribute to the University’s "Third Mission" by engaging with Luxembourg and EU financial law, and will be encouraged to develop into a leadership role within the Department. This position offers the opportunity to gain recognition and respect in Luxembourg’s legal community, renowned for its emphasis on financial law expertise and its strong integration of academic insight with professional practice. Their doctoral students will benefit from a strong academic environment and excellent career prospects-more than 20 former PhD graduates from the Department have gone on to become professors.
The successful candidate must commit to lecturing banking law, as well as related topics in financial and commercial law, at bachelor and master levels.
The successful candidate is also expected to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, prepare grant applications for external funding and actively engage with other research institutions and industry partners to establish research cooperations in Luxembourg and beyond.
The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual and multicultural context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and French. Knowledge of German is considered an advantage. The University actively supports language development among its staff and offers access to language courses to this end.
