The CRC 1459 (“Intelligent matter: from responsive to adaptive nanosystems”) is seeking to fill the position of a

commencing on 1 June 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. We are offering a fixed-term, part-time (65%) position for three years that is tied to working toward a doctoral degree in Theoretical Physics/Theoretical Chemistry. Full-time employees are required to teach 4 hours per week during the semester.

  • Carry out an independent doctoral research project in theoretical and computational modeling of complex nanoscale systems with emergent functionality.
  • Develop and analyze physical models and numerical simulations to investigate charge transport, non-linear and time-dependent behavior, including memory-related effects in these systems.
  • Work at the interface between theory and experiment within an interdisciplinary research environment.
  • Disseminate research results through scientific publications, presentations, and active participation in the research environment.
  • A master’s (or equivalent) degree in physics, chemistry, or a closely related discipline.
  • Very good experience with scientific programming and a good background in areas such as statistical physics, condensed matter physics, or non-linear systems.
  • An independent, structured, and analytical working style, combined with openness to collaboration.
  • Very good written and spoken English.
