EIB Trainee – Projects Directorate – Innovative Supply Chain & Process Industries Division – Luxembourg

Apply for the trainee position in the Projects Directorate (PJ) – Innovation & Competitiveness Department (INCO) – Innovative Supply Chain & Process Industries Division (SCPI) at the European Investment Bank (EIB) headquarters in Luxembourg. The role requires regular office presence and offers the opportunity to work in a truly international and multicultural environment.

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026). Possible extension up to 6 months if required by university. Only nationals of EU Member States and candidate countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine) are considered. Erasmus+ programme overlap will exclude candidates. Limit applications to a maximum of three publications; only the first three will be retained.

Objective of the traineeship

Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) are crucial for the digital and green transitions. The trainee will support the Bank’s internal team by consolidating knowledge on CRMs, providing background research on market, supply chain and technology trends, and analysing the Bank’s investment potential for future projects.

Responsibilities

Prepare internal presentations on the outlook and the Bank’s role in financing CRM projects.
Perform research on strategic CRM projects (extraction, processing, recycling, substitution).
Prepare concise summaries on specific topics in CRM technologies and projects from internal and external sources.
Review and benchmark previous projects financed by the Bank.
Collaborate with your tutor while independently managing your workload.

Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills

Final year of studies or university degree in Economics, Geology, Mineral Processing, Engineering, Materials Science, Market Research or related fields.
Genuine affinity with Critical Raw Materials and related fields.
Prior work experience in the Critical Raw Materials area is an advantage.
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; ability to write concise summaries of lengthy reports.
Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Excel).
