EIB Trainee - Portfolio Management & Monitoring Directorate - Intermediated Lending Division - based in Luxembourg

This position is based at our Luxembourg headquarters and requires regular office presence. The EIB offers the opportunity to live and work in a truly international and multi‑cultural environment.

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st March/April 2026) with a possible extension up to 6 months if required by the university.

Eligibility: Only applications from nationals of the Member States of the European Union and citizens of candidate states (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine) will be considered. Candidates whose Erasmus+ programme overlaps with the duration of the traineeship will not be considered. Please limit your applications to a maximum of three traineeship publications; only the first three submissions will be retained.

Objective of the traineeship

The function supports strategic projects ongoing in EIB's Middle Office Division, which monitors operations intermediated by financial intermediaries. The objective is to realise operational efficiency gains by supporting the implementation of IT developments and digitalisation initiatives relevant for monitoring of intermediated operations in the Joint Middle Office.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting senior colleagues in business analysis, project management, and strategic planning tasks to enable implementation of ongoing initiatives.
  • supporting the division with the usual monitoring activities as required.
  • assist the JMO/IL division in other projects that may arise.

Main Tasks

  • Support technical developments in the different IT applications used by the Joint Middle Office Department, Intermediated Lending Division, by contributing to the implementation of new system updates, including parametrisation, testing and migration to the new systems.
  • Support the design and documentation of information and learning material relevant to the monitoring activity of EIB intermediated loans and guarantees.
  • As required, support the division with the usual monitoring activities.

Academic Qualifications and Professional Skills

  • Final year of studies or university degree preferably in Business Administration, Economics, Information Technology, Engineering or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of the EIB's mission and activities as well as of its financial products.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including MS365, Copilot, Outlook & Word, and particularly Excel.
  • Analytical skills and data management abilities.
  • Experience with software development, programming or use of visual platforms would be an advantage.
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; knowledge of another EU language would be an advantage.
