We are looking for a Software Developer with a background in electrical power engineering to contribute to the continuous development of a professional grid analysis and planning software used in the field of electrical energy systems.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering and electrical engineering — combining analytical modelling, simulation, and high-performance C++ programming to support the safe and efficient operation of power networks.

Software Engineer – Electrical Network Analysis & Short-Circuit Calculation (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of further development and improvement of our electrical network planning and simulation software, with a focus on short‑circuit current calculations according to IEC 60909
  • Provide technical support and consultation to customers and internal teams
  • Maintain and expand the data model for representing electrical networks
  • Apply test‑driven software development practices to ensure code quality and robustness
  • Participate in collaborative research and standardisation projects related to energy system modelling

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a comparable technical discipline
  • Strong knowledge of short‑circuit current calculation (IEC 60909‑0 or related standards)
  • Proficiency in C++ (minimum 2 years of professional experience) with solid object‑oriented programming understanding
  • Experience with software testing tools, CI/CD, and version control systems (e.g. Git)
  • Interest in learning and applying modern C++ libraries and programming methods
  • Good German skills (B2 level) and good command of English
  • Analytical, structured, and solution‑oriented working style

Technical Environment

  • Languages: C++, Python (optional for scripting or testing)
  • Frameworks & Tools: Qt (for UI and data visualization), CMake, Git, unit testing frameworks
  • Domain: Electrical grid simulation, power system analysis, IEC 60909 short‑circuit models
