Embedded Software Engineer - CONTRACT - Robotics / ROS/ROS2 / Networking

  • Hybrid in Munich - 3 days per week onsite
  • 12 month freelance contract (with extensions likely)

We're partnered with a leading global semiconductor and embedded systems company and they're looking for an Embedded Software Engineer with solid experience in C++ and Python, experience in real-time, multithreaded application, ROS/ROS2 and robotics middleware and familiarity with networking protocols and debugging tools (to join them on a long term freelance contract tin Munich.

What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and optimize algorithms for robotics and autonomous driving applications, including advanced driver assistance features.
  • Implement, test, and debug software in C++ and Python for embedded and real-time environments.
  • Develop modular and scalable robotics software stacks using ROS/ROS2.
  • Integrate and interface with multiple sensor types, including radar, LiDAR, cameras, and IMUs.
  • Ensure accurate sensor calibration, synchronization, and multi-sensor data fusion.
  • Develop and maintain real-time communication systems between electronic control units and computing platforms.
  • Collaborate with hardware and system engineers to ensure stable and high-performance system integration.
  • Perform in-depth debugging, profiling, and root-cause analysis of embedded platforms.
  • Support system-level testing, validation, and technical documentation.
  • Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Your experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • At least three years of professional experience in embedded software, robotics, or automotive systems development.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, including experience with real-time and multithreaded systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with ROS/ROS2 and robotics middleware frameworks.
  • Practical knowledge of networking protocols and diagnostic tools for embedded systems.
  • Understanding of sensor technologies, including radar, LiDAR, cameras, and inertial measurement units.
  • Experience with sensor calibration, synchronization, and data fusion methods.
  • Strong debugging, performance profiling, and optimization skills.

Nice to have skills:

  • Experience with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving features.
  • Background in computer vision and AI-based perception systems.
  • Familiarity with automotive‑grade software development standards and workflows.
  • Experience with distributed embedded systems and real‑time networking
