Geospatial / Weather Data Engineer – Energy Trading

We are building a production-grade Weather Data Pipeline to generate daily trading signals for Energy Markets.

We are looking for an experienced Geospatial / Weather Data Engineer with deep expertise in scientific Python and large-scale atmospheric datasets.

Scope of Work

You will design and implement the ingestion, transformation, and processing of high-volume weather model data in a cloud-native environment.

Core Responsibilities

Scientific Python Stack (Mandatory)

• Advanced use of xarray and numpy for multidimensional atmospheric grids
• Distributed computing with Dask
• Management of PyTorch / CUDA dependencies
• Deep understanding of the Zarr format
• Optimization of chunking strategies for parallel operations on GCS
• Conversion of GRIB and NetCDF datasets into Zarr

Data Ingestion

• Development of fault-tolerant fetchers for:
• AWS S3 (GFS)
• ECMWF Open Data (IFS)
• Copernicus Climate Data Store (ERA5)

Data Transformation

• Interpolation of GCM grids to standardized 0.25° equirectangular grids
• Standardization of variable names aligned with NVIDIA Earth-2 (e.g., t2m, u100, v100)

Orchestration

• Advanced Apache Airflow DAG design
• Error handling, retries, and alerting mechanisms
• Event-driven triggering of downstream workflows

Ideal Profile

• Strong background in atmospheric, climate, or geospatial data
• Deep expertise in scientific data pipelines at scale
• Experience in quantitative or energy trading environments is a plus
• Autonomous and outcome-driven
• 75 man-days (624 hours)
• Weekly timesheets
• 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week
• 100% remote
• Project period: March 30 – July 15, 2026
