Hardware Project Leader (m/f/d)

About The Role

The HW Project Leader (HW PL) is member of a HW Core Assets team to realize automotive IVI and telematics systems. She/he leads the HW development for Harman Stratus NAD platform, coordinates all HW-related tasks acc. Harman BMS process and guidelines of Hardware Development. She/he will be part of the HW+ Engineering Team inside SBU Connectivity, reporting to the Director, HW Core Assets.

What You Will Do

  • Technical lead hardware development projects in the field of Connectivity covering LTE/5G/6G devices and other short range wireless devices/modules.
  • Lead the local HW project team, steer the project team in remote locations (Bucharest, Shanghai) in close cooperation to the local managers and act as the customer interface for Hardware topics.
  • Represent the Project Manager (PM) in internal and external meetings (customer, suppliers) for Hardware related topics.
  • Assist/Support the PM in conception, commercial evaluation and the provision of technical specifications, documentation and presentation material for Telematics- and Connectivity function blocks and products.
  • Support the realization of the Hardware Development Process acc. Harman BMS and guidelines of SBU Hardware Development.
  • Support/Perform Requirement Engineering (Doors, DNG, ALM), Change Management, documentation, DFMEA, … under Harman Tools.
  • Perform analysis, evaluation and feasibility of customer requirements and special OEM specifications for RFC, RFI, RFQ and CRs, BOM estimates and calculation, effort estimation and technical support for risk management.
  • Perform analysis of cost‑down measures to achieve HW BOM targets.
  • Realize system designs, schematics and integration of hardware applications and functional blocks/modules for In‑Vehicle Infotainment Systems in the range of simple to medium complexity under consideration of Harman guidelines during the complete development process.
  • Global cooperation with other departments such as Quality, Manufacturing and Software during the development process.
  • Provide maintenance support.
  • Provide technical support for internal and/or external staff in the industrialization of functional items in an international environment (e.g. ODM, EMS suppliers).
  • Analyze the customer specification, generate related work packages (design and verification) and perform design reviews for each development stage.
  • Collect, analyze and prepare all relevant project data for the project status and report project status to management level.
  • Execute special projects on behalf of the disciplinary superior.

What You Need To Be Successful

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or appropriate graduation).
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the HW development, verification and industrialization of In‑vehicle Infotainment systems, telematics/connectivity system or other automotive ECUs of similar complexity level.
  • Experience working on RF modules like 5G NADs and other wireless technology modules.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience as technical lead of HW team.
  • Knowledge with tools for schematic/layout realization and simulation (e.g. Mentor Graphics, SPICE, …) as well as Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of defect management rules and tools (ticket‑based systems, such as Jira or similar).
  • Strong verbal and written English skills.
  • High level of creativity combined with solid analytical problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ability to articulate complex technical topics clearly and defend engineering decisions.
  • Structured and target‑oriented working style as well as proven ability to collaborate within cross‑functional engineering teams.

Bonus Points if You Have

  • Experience in the development of analogue, digital and RF designs, especially in wireless applications (e.g., mobile network technologies) and/or telematics systems.
  • Experience in analogue, digital and RF design.
  • Experience in requirements management (e.g. DOORS, DNG, ALM) beneficial.

  • Willingness to travel within Germany & internationally on demand (around 10‑25%).
  • Successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment (post‑offer).
  • This position requires the use of a HARMAN or customer‑owned vehicle. As such, any offer of employment will be contingent upon having a clean driving record, which will be evaluated and determined in HARMAN’s sole discretion, no more than four (4) active points for moving violations (issued by any motor vehicle agency), and no references to operating a vehicle under the influence of controlled substances within the last 10 years.
