Pre-Construction Engineer

Key responsibilities:Support the development of MEP design and coordination during the pre-construction phase of large-scale data centre projects.Review design drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and value-engineering opportunities.Collaborate with design consultants, BIM teams, and specialist subcontractors to ensure coordinated and buildable design solutions.Lead MEP design reviews and technical workshops to align design intent with constructability, schedule, and budget targets.Support bid preparation by developing detailed MEP scope breakdowns, technical clarifications, and tender queries.Assist with cost plan validation, risk identification, and technical input for commercial proposals.Prepare and manage MEP technical submittals, ensuring compliance with client specifications and industry standards.Provide input into project execution plans, construction sequencing, and prefabrication strategies.Contribute to the development of commissioning, QA/QC, and handover strategies from the design stage onwards.Coordinate with procurement and supply chain teams to verify vendor capability, lead times, and technical alignment with project requirements.Drive early engagement between design, engineering, and construction teams to ensure seamless transition from pre-construction to delivery.Maintain detailed records of design changes, decisions, and approvals in line with company quality procedures. Qualifications/Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering, or related discipline.Minimum 5 years’ experience in MEP design, engineering, or pre-construction roles within large-scale data centre, pharmaceutical, or industrial projects.Strong technical understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including HVAC, power distribution, containment, and cooling technologies.Familiarity with data centre design standards.Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.Experience using BIM/Revit, Navisworks, and document-management platforms such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) or similar.Knowledge of QA/QC, commissioning, and handover processes in complex MEP environments.Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify design risks and value-engineering opportunities.Excellent communication and coordination skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders.Proactive, structured, and detail-oriented mindset with a focus on constructability and delivery readiness.Willingness to travel occasionally across Europe for design coordination meetings and site reviews.
