Project Lead Payment Operations

Interim role within a newly established banking setup, responsible for building and stabilising non-card payment operations as part of a broader retail banking transformation.

Key Tasks / Focus Areas

• Establish and run end-to-end operations for SEPA Credit Transfers, Instant Payments, and Direct Debits
• Set up and manage exception handling, returns, investigations, and payment-related inquiries
• Ensure accurate daily reconciliation between internal systems and external clearing/settlement infrastructures
• Oversee liquidity and settlement processes in coordination with Treasury and external stakeholders
• Define operational processes, controls, and automation standards in line with regulatory requirements

Profile / Qualifications

• Strong hands‑on background in European payment operations (SEPA CT, SCT Inst, SDD)
• Proven experience in setting up or scaling payment operations in a greenfield or transformation environment
• Deep understanding of payment exceptions, investigations, and reconciliation processes
• Solid knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks (e.g. PSD, ISO 20022, German payment regulations)
• Interim/contractor mindset with the ability to start immediately and operate independently
