Robotics Software Engineer UAV Systems

Robotics Software Engineer | Autonomous Systems | Defense Robotics | Germany (Full-time)

Our client is building real autonomous robotic systems for defense and mission‑critical operations systems that operate outdoors, under uncertainty, with real consequences. They are looking for a Robotics Software Engineer to design, implement, and harden core autonomy software that runs on real hardware and is validated in the field, not the lab.

The Role

• Build core autonomy software that powers next-generation robotic systems
• Design and implement robust, real-time robotics software components in modern C++
• Work with multi-modal sensor data, ensuring correct timing, synchronization, and coordinate frames
• Develop and improve algorithms across estimation, perception, planning, control, or system integration
• Ensure deterministic behavior, reliability, and system-level stability under real-world constraints
• Debug complex runtime issues including latency, performance bottlenecks, and integration failures
• Validate and iterate on robotic systems during outdoor field tests and operational deployments
• Collaborate closely with robotics, embedded, and domain experts across the stack
• Maintain high engineering standards: code reviews, CI pipelines, reproducible builds, and documentation
• Execute directly on real hardware — operational performance and field results are the final metric

The Candidate

Must-have:

• Strong proficiency in modern C++ (C++17 / C++20)
• Hands‑on experience with ROS / ROS 2
• Solid foundation in algorithms, data structures, and numerical methods
• Experience developing software that runs on real robots, embedded systems, or HIL setups
• Comfortable working with raw sensor data (timing, noise characteristics, transforms, calibration)
• Strong debugging skills across runtime issues, latency, and system integration
• Ability to design clean, modular, and maintainable software architectures
• End‑to‑end systems mindset: understanding how individual modules affect overall behavior
