Senior IT Service Manager

Become a key leader in stabilising and maturing ICT services across a complex, multi‑platform environment for a major public sector organisation delivering critical national infrastructure and essential public services. This contract role offers the opportunity to take ownership of service delivery, process improvement and operational performance, working closely with IT service operations teams, problem management, suppliers and senior stakeholders to ensure services are reliable, resilient and continuously improving. This is a 12 month contract position paying up to £700 per day, Inside IR35, with hybrid working (1-2 days per week on site) in Exeter.

As a Senior IT Service Manager you will:

• Lead service management activity across multiple platforms, channels and services to ensure performance, availability and compliance.
• Own and manage configuration items, service records and risk/compliance controls.
• Conduct investigative work into incidents, problems and process gaps, producing recommendations for improvement.
• Analyse current service processes and implement optimisation initiatives.
• Take accountability for issues and proactively identify potential problems.
• Build strong, strategic relationships with stakeholders to drive positive outcomes.
• Apply data analytics to identify trends and enhance service performance.
• Define and embed service strategies, policies and best‑practice methodologies.

Essential Skills & Experience of the Senior IT Service Manager include:

• Strong IT service delivery and operations management background.
• Expertise in ITIL-based processes, configuration management and risk.
• Ability to lead multi-disciplinary service teams.
• Experience investigating complex issues and driving improvements.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Data-driven decision-making and MI/dashboard experience.
