The domain is highly cross-cutting , revenue-critical , and dependency-heavy , making it a strong candidate for dedicated program-level ownership . The initial focus is Checkout & Payments, with the expectation that focus areas may evolve over time based on company priorities .

As Technical Program Manager – Checkout & Payments (m/f/d) , you will lead cross-functional programs at the heart of Shopware’s commercial transaction flow. You will connect engineering, product, QA, platform, and external partners to ensure reliable, predictable delivery across initiatives that directly impact revenue, conversion, and customer trust.

Your mission is to ensure that Shopware’s checkout and payment experiences are scalable, compliant, and resilient; while enabling teams to deliver complex changes with clarity and confidence.

This position can be filled on-site , hybrid , but also full-remote within Germany or specific European countries where we are registered. Your work location will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your employment contract.

These are your tasks:

  • You will own and drive complex, cross-functional technical programs at the core of Shopware’s commercial transaction flow. This role operates at program level, spanning multiple teams, product areas, and external partners.
  • You act as the single point of orchestration for Checkout & Payments initiatives across units aligning product strategy, engineering execution, QA, platform capabilities, and third-party providers to ensure predictable, high-quality delivery in a revenue-critical domain.
  • You take end-to-end ownership of technical programs across checkout, orders, payments, shipping, tax, and related commercial capabilities, with accountability for delivery outcomes, risk management, and execution quality.
  • You translate strategic business and product objectives into structured execution plans, clear milestones, and delivery timelines, ensuring alignment across teams with competing priorities and dependencies.
  • You proactively identify, manage, and resolve cross-team and cross-domain dependencies, technical risks, and delivery bottlenecks before they impact customers, partners, or revenue.
  • You facilitate and lead program-level alignment forums, planning sessions, and retrospectives, enabling informed decision-making, clear trade-offs, and shared ownership across senior stakeholders.
  • You coordinate initiatives involving internal teams and external providers (e.g. payment service providers, logistics partners, compliance stakeholders), ensuring seamless collaboration and clear accountability boundaries.
  • You ensure that delivery consistently meets requirements for scalability, performance, security, compliance, and long-term maintainability, particularly in areas that directly affect conversion, trust, and financial transactions.
  • You establish and continuously evolve repeatable delivery frameworks, reporting structures, and lean coordination practices that scale with organizational complexity and changing priorities.
  • You provide transparent, concise program-level reporting to engineering and product leadership, surfacing risks, progress, and decisions in a way that supports timely action.

This is what you’ll bring to the table:

  • You have 7+ years of experience in technical program management, technical project management, or a comparable senior cross-functional delivery role in complex product or platform organizations in the tech industry.
  • You bring strong technical fluency and are comfortable working with engineering teams on topics such as distributed systems, APIs, integrations, and modern software delivery practices.
  • You have a proven track record of leading large, dependency-heavy initiatives that span multiple teams, products, and external stakeholders.
  • You are experienced in operating in revenue-critical or compliance-sensitive domains and understand the impact of delivery quality on customer trust and business outcomes.
  • You excel at stakeholder management at all levels, including senior engineering, product, and business leadership, and are confident facilitating alignment in ambiguous or high-pressure situations.
  • You are highly structured, outcome-oriented, and take clear ownership of delivery, risk management, and execution quality.
  • You communicate with clarity, precision, and empathy, particularly when navigating trade-offs, constraints, or conflicting priorities.
  • You have excellent English skills and are comfortable using them daily (German is not required).
  • Bonus points if you have experience with e-commerce platforms, checkout or payment systems (PayPal, Stripe, Ayden), third-party integrations, or open-source ecosystems, and if you have led initiatives involving security, compliance, or performance-critical systems.
