AI Expert – Digital Transformation in Private Equity (m/f/d)

Mutares SE & Co. KGaA, Munich ( as a listed private equity holding company, acquires medium-sized companies in special situations, which show significant operational improvement potential and are sold again after undergoing a repositioning and stabilization process. Mutares actively support its portfolio companies with its own investment and operations teams and through strategic add-on acquisitions. The focus is on companies with revenues ranging from EUR 100 million to EUR 750 million, across various industries. The aim is to achieve a clear value increase with a focus on sustainable, long-term growth of the portfolio company.

To drive digitalization across our portfolio companies, we are looking to hire a hands-on and entrepreneurial AI Expert . In this role you will act as an internal consultant, thought leader, and execution partner to portfolio company management teams. Your mission is to make AI a central building block in our value creation roadmap.

Your Tasks

• Conduct discovery workshops to identify AI opportunities addressing key pain points such as automation, analytics, NLP, and generative AI
• Define and prioritize use cases based on business impact, feasibility, and implementation effort
• Design scalable AI solutions and prototypes, ensuring cross-portfolio reusability
• Oversee implementation, including vendor selection, team coordination, and technical validation
• Develop toolkits and frameworks to accelerate AI adoption and enablement across Mutares and its portfolio companies

Your Profile

• Successfully completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering or similar field with outstanding results
• At least 3 years of experience in designing and implementing AI solutions in business contexts delivering large-scale AI or digital transformation projects in leading management consulting firms
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with an entrepreneurial mindset and hands-on approach
• Strong understanding of machine learning, LLMs, MLOps, data pipelines, and cloud-based AI architectures (Azure/AWS/GCP)
• Business fluency in English, with the ability to communicate in a well-structured and concise manner, German language skills are a plus
• Willingness to travel up to 4 days per week (typically Monday – Thursday) and to work in an international environment
