Automation / DevOps Engineer

Serco is seeking a dedicated Automation / DevOps Engineer to support the European Space Agency’s Mission Operations Infrastructure at the Network Operations Centre (NOC). This role will focus on driving digital transformation initiatives and improving IT service delivery through automation.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and promote automation across NOC services by identifying opportunities within IT service delivery and operational processes.
Collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to translate service requirements into automated solutions.
Support the Service Management Team in evolving services to meet changing business needs.
Integrate automation tools with ITSM platforms to streamline incident, problem and change management.
Lead the design, implementation and operationalisation of automated processes.
Enable and monitor automation tools within NOC services to ensure efficiency, reliability and compliance.
Drive continuous improvement by adopting new technologies for intelligent automation.
Participate in user meetings, briefings, user groups and workshops as required.
Stay current with automation trends, technologies and best practices.
Provide regular and on-demand reporting and statistics.
Act as an interface to the customer.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Proven experience (3+ years) in IT service management, IT operations or automation roles.
Project management experience – Prince2, PMP, Six Sigma certification preferred.
Hands‑on expertise with automation platforms and process automation or workflow optimisation; certification in automation is preferred.
Familiarity with digital transformation initiatives and enterprise automation strategies.
Experience with infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef or Terraform.
Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell or Bash) preferred.
Familiarity with ITSM platforms for integrating automation into IT workflows.
Day‑to‑day knowledge of networking concepts, virtualization and operating systems.
Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self‑starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Analytical mindset and strong problem‑solving capabilities.
Excellent stakeholder management, documentation and presentation skills.
