- Ideate, design, and scope new backend functionality to support AI‑powered features that meet user needs.
- Build backend functionality and deliver backend tasks, individually and through pair‑programming, from production to user delivery.
- Guard backend services, maintaining high quality and continuously improving robustness as we scale.
- Serve as a core member of the product and engineering team, collaborating across frontend, backend, and AI systems to align work with the company’s mission.
Technical Requirements
- 4+ years of backend engineering experience, ideally building SaaS or AI products.
- Fluency in Python, including strong proficiency with base Python and modern libraries/frameworks such as FastAPI.
- Experience building APIs, including production‑grade external‑facing APIs, REST principles, and features like rate‑limiting, versioning, client‑SDKs, and monitoring.
- Experience with databases, especially Postgres or other relational systems, ORMs like SQLAlchemy, and migration tooling such as Alembic.
- Experience with cloud services, preferably in GCP, designing scalable cloud infrastructure and distributing heavy‑processing jobs like AI workloads.
- Software quality focus: CI/CD, containerization, observability (logging, tracing, metrics), and robust testing practices.
- Fluency in English (C1 level) with clear communication to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Technical Nice to Haves
- Hands‑on experience with AI/LLM systems and the challenges of deploying them.
- Interest in AI agents and emerging autonomous system architectures.
- Experience with serverless/orchestration frameworks such as Modal for scalable AI workloads.
- Knowledge of distributed‑systems patterns, parallel execution, and load/failure testing.
- Experience with caching layers (e.g., Redis) and CDN strategies.
- Experience setting up integration tests.
- Advanced observability experience, especially with API services and cloud systems.
- Domain‑driven design experience for backend architecture.
- AuthN/AuthZ experience (OAuth 2.0, JWT) and secrets management, plus security/compliance best practices.
- Interest in sustainability, climate, or ESG topics, and a desire to apply your skills to accelerate the climate transition.
