Chair (W2) of Low-Temperature Physics of Topological Quantum Materials and Devices

Stellenbeschreibung:

TUD Dresden University of Technology is a leading research institution dedicated to addressing the grand challenges of the 21st century. The Institute of Solid State and Materials Physics, Faculty of Physics, invites applications for the Chair (W2) of Low‑Temperature Physics of Topological Quantum Materials and Devices, to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Key Duties and Academic Responsibilities

The Chair will represent the field of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics in research and teaching. Core responsibilities include:

  • Conducting cutting‑edge research on low‑temperature physics of novel topological and correlated materials—both bulk systems and functional devices such as thin films, hybrid or heterostructures, nanostructures, 2D materials, and cavity quantum materials.
  • Investigating bulk materials at low temperatures and high magnetic fields using transport measurements or local probes.
  • Designing, developing, and characterizing quantum‑ or topological devices.
  • Pursuing collaborative research activities within the Cluster of Excellence ctd.qmat and with external partners.
  • Teaching responsibilities at the Faculty of Physics and active participation in academic self‑administration.

Requirements & Candidate Profile

We seek a candidate (m/f/x) with proven expertise in low‑temperature physics of novel topological and correlated materials, including experience with functional components. Desired qualifications:

  • Doctorate in physics or a related discipline.
  • Habilitation or equivalent achievement in research and teaching.
  • Experience acquiring third‑party funding and managing research projects.
  • Strong publication record and international collaborations.
  • Independent research projects or a strong, internationally oriented research program for early‑career researchers.
  • Demonstrated teaching skills in bilingual courses (German and English) and experience in course design.
  • Strategic thinking, reflective working style, and motivational leadership of interdisciplinary, diverse teams.
  • Immediate proficiency in German is not required, but sufficient German skills should be acquired within a reasonable period to conduct teaching and administrative tasks.

The position is governed by §§ 59, 69, 71 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG) and the Regulations on Duties and Responsibilities of Institutes of Higher Education (HSDAVO). The Chair will enjoy the full academic and administrative status accorded to German university faculty.

Equal Opportunity Statement

TUD is committed to employing more women in academia and research and to establishing a family‑friendly environment with a Dual Career Service. The University welcomes applications from candidates with disabilities. If multiple candidates are equally qualified, those with disabilities or equivalent status under the German Social Code IX (SGB IX) will receive priority for employment. For questions regarding equality and diversity, contact the Equal Opportunities Officer of the Faculty of Physics or the Representative of Employees with Disabilities.
