Owen Electric Company - Safety Manager

Provide safety support to identify gaps in the Electrical Safety Program, implement safety controls, conduct lock‑out/tag‑out verifications, and consult on electrical safety issues using standards such as OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 385.

Responsibilities

  • Support company Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program.
  • Maintain Subject Matter Expert (SME) level knowledge of NFPA 70E and act as company SME for electrical safety compliance.
  • Attend weekly job site coordination meetings and discuss safety issues.
  • Assist with pre‑job assessments for major electrical projects.
  • Answer electrical safety questions and deliver program presentations.
  • Maintain the company's electrical safety procedures to keep regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate and conduct safety trainings, including new hire safety orientations.
  • Conduct electrical training to maintain knowledge levels for electrical workers.
  • Conduct audits and reviews of electrical equipment, installations, and facilities to verify compliance with NFPA 70E, OSHA, and NEC.
  • Develop and maintain electrical safety training for basic and advanced qualified electrical workers.
  • Conduct job site safety audits on required daily/weekly safety tasks.
  • Build and maintain safety training spreadsheets.
  • Perform job site safety inspections and create safety reports.
  • Conduct safety audits on personnel, tools, equipment, material, etc.
  • Conduct lockout/tag‑out reviews as requested.
  • Conduct safe work practice reviews.
  • Act as safety liaison and promote company safety efforts and incentive programs.
  • Lead or assist with conducting general safety audits and investigations of near misses, incidents, and accidents.
  • Enforce safe work practices that exceed OSHA minimum standards and enforce company rules, site‑specific requirements, and disciplinary policy.
  • Provide professional development for the safety team as needed.
  • Perform other assigned safety functions as required.
  • Work as part of a project team to provide deliverables and meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • SME-level knowledge in electrical safety and NFPA 70E.
  • Thorough understanding of Arc Flash Analysis protocols and concepts.
  • Experience in electrical safety and knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and related safety standards.
  • High voltage and low voltage electrical safety experience.
  • Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of 10 years electrical experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management (preferred); High school diploma required.
  • OSHA‑30 certification, CPR, First Aid, Arc Flash (NFPA 70E) certification, Fall Protection, and trench & excavation certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to work accurately under pressure and strict deadlines.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret OSHA standards and write reports.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of workers, supervisors, managers, and customers.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including influence, negotiation, and inclusive style.
  • Excellent time and cost management skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to work well within a team of other professionals.
  • Ability to understand one‑line drawings and operate electrical equipment and testing devices.
  • Ability to work in a high‑performance, cross‑functional organization with tight timelines.
  • Travel up to 50% required.
  • Safety‑conscious, detail‑oriented, highly organized, and able to multitask.
  • Ability to train, influence, and motivate team members.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Equipment operator experience or basic equipment maintenance knowledge.

Work Availability

  • Maintain regular and acceptable attendance.
  • Be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Attend site‑specific power utility shutdowns.
  • Minimum physical requirements: standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing; climb stairs or ladders; use hands/fingers; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; lift up to 75 pounds; work indoor/outdoor; withstand moderate noise; meet vision requirements.
