Job Overview

In the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 1349 "Fluorine‑Specific Interactions" ( research is conducted by 50 PhD students and PostDocs across 20 working groups at the Freien Universität Berlin, Humboldt University Berlin, Technical University Berlin, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, and Leibniz Research Institute for Molecular Pharmacology.

The scientific objectives are to understand and control the complex interactions that can emanate from fluorinated structural units in chemical systems, linking expertise in synthesis/biosynthesis, analytics/spectroscopy, and theory/modeling.

Job Description

• Collaborate in the C4 Network project “Microscopic Mechanisms of Superhydrophobicity and Superlubricity of Fluorinated Surfaces” as part of CRC 1349
• Perform and evaluate MD simulations to characterize the folding and aggregation behavior of fluorinated proteins and peptides
• Develop numerical methods for calculating the non‑Markovian viscoelastic properties of proteins and other complex systems using the generalized Langevin equation
• Calculate folding and aggregation dynamics using non‑Markovian reaction‑rate theory

Requirements

• Successfully completed an academic degree (diploma or master’s) in physics or a comparable subject

Desirable

• Experience in performing and evaluating atomistic MD simulations
• Knowledge of statistical mechanics of equilibrium and non‑equilibrium systems
• Very good academic performance, especially in numerical simulation methods, statistical mechanics, and stochastics
• Very good oral and written English skills
