Description

Our client is seeking to employ a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Officer to join their manufacturing facility based in Heidelberg, Gauteng.

The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Fire Prevention and Firefighting certification.
  • Relevant HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or SAMTRAC (advantageous).
  • Minimum 2–4 years’ experience in a manufacturing or similar production environment.
  • Sound technical knowledge of OHS legislation, standards, and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of risk management, HACCP, and related legislation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and report‑writing skills.
  • High attention to detail and strong organisational ability.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Implement and enforce HSE policies, procedures, and standards across the plant.
  • Monitor compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support certification and compliance programmes such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
  • Conduct routine inspections, audits, SHE meetings, and risk assessments.
  • Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventative actions.
  • Maintain accurate safety documentation, permits, inspection records, and training files.
  • Lead incident and accident investigations.
  • Compile detailed reports including root cause analysis and preventative recommendations.
  • Deliver HSE training sessions, inductions, and toolbox talks to employees and contractors.
  • Promote continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen the site’s safety culture.
  • Support emergency preparedness programmes, drills, and response coordination.
  • Ensure proper waste management and environmental protection practices.
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities, auditors, and external stakeholders when required.
