iSTAR Advanced Clinician Scientist (ACS) (all genders)

Responsibilities

The iSTAR – Integrative Advanced Clinician Scientists Targeting Inflammatory and Infectious Disease programme supports clinician scientists in developing independence and leadership in immune‑mediated inflammatory diseases.

  • Develop and execute a 6‑year research programme focussed on inflammatory or infectious diseases
  • Translate basic research findings into clinical applications
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary research team
  • Secure and manage third‑party funding
  • Participate in the structured iSTAR‑Curriculum (leadership training, mentoring, medical training)

Qualifications

  • Medical specialist certification (Facharzt/-ärztin) already obtained or to be obtained shortly
  • Outstanding research profile with a focus on inflammatory or infectious diseases
  • Demonstrated success in securing third‑party funding
  • Strong leadership experience and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams

Documents to Submit (English PDF)

  • CV (no more than 5 pages) including a list of major publications (highlight the 5 most important publications of the past 5 years), a list of secured third‑party funds, and note of first leadership experience
  • Motivational letter describing how the proposed project will advance iSTAR’s goal of closing the lag between basic research and clinical applications, and detailing team‑oriented processes to build and advance the group
  • Research proposal with time and budget plan for a 6‑year funding period (max. 5 pages)
  • Letter of support from the current (and, if applicable, former) clinical mentor confirming clinical qualification
  • Two additional reference letters from clinical and scientific mentors

The review process will take place within 2–4 months.

Immunity Status

Employment is contingent upon proof of immunization or immunity against the measles virus, in accordance with applicable legal and medical requirements. Documentation (e.g., vaccination certificate) must be provided before employment begins.
