Job Description

In this function you are part of the Corporate Global Trade Management (GTM) team. The GTM team is a global team responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s customs and trade compliance function.

This is a regional role covering multiple countries in the EMEA region and reporting to the GTM EMEA Director. The GTM EMEA team consists of five people located in the Netherlands and Germany.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  1. Supporting the company in meeting its international trade compliance obligations in the region including compliance related to Free Trade Agreements, customs tariff classification, customs valuation, export control, import/export licenses, and other customs regulations.
  2. Providing trade compliance advice and support to all GTM stakeholders including Supply Chain, Finance, Tax, Legal, Procurement and Sales.
  3. Working closely with the regional VAT team to ensure compliance with VAT processes related to import/export.
  4. Maintaining the customs control framework in the region.
  5. Providing trade compliance support for business projects, initiatives, and acquisitions.
  6. Reviewing business models and post-entry data to determine strategies to mitigate risks and reduce duties/fees legitimately.
  7. Leading the resolution of issues relating to import/export clearances to avoid business disruption.
  8. Reviewing current trade compliance processes and identifying improvement opportunities.
  9. Liaising with local customs and trade authorities as needed to meet the company’s compliance obligations.
  10. Managing Customs Brokers performance and KPIs.
  11. Leading implementation of customs systems/software, due diligence projects, and other trade compliance related projects on a Regional or Global level.
  12. Performing periodic trade compliance risk assessments on sites in the region.
  13. Developing trade compliance training materials and providing education to business personnel.
  14. Leading defense strategies in cases of customs inquiry, audit, or investigation.
  15. Monitoring trade compliance legislation changes, understanding their impact on the business and implementing strategies to mitigate adverse impact or harvest opportunities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree

5+ years experience in the field of customs and international trade (preferably in a multinational company and/or consultancy firm)

Working knowledge of EMEA wide trade/customs regulations and processes, including tariff classification, (preferential) origin, customs valuation and other customs schemes

Strong analytical and Google Sheet skills (formulas, pivot tables)

Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written. French is a plus.

Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Proactive and highly motivated: Able to work independently, in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

Ability to balance rule-driven processes with creative problem-solving skills.

Proven ability to analyze trade compliance issues, conduct relevant research and suggest and implement solutions with minimal guidance.

Proven ability to collaborate across organizational units and functions to successfully complete projects on time and meet corporate objectives. Proven follow-up skills.

Experience in using import and export software packages to manage processes and augment internal controls.
