Master Student (m/w/d) for Thesis – Planetary Lander with RTG technology

Your Tasks

• Literature review of RTG and RHU technologies, with particular focus on the European context and on the constraints these technologies impose on spacecraft and system design
• Understanding of mission-level objectives and requirements, and their flow‑down to lander-level technical requirements
• Preliminary system design of a surface lander powered by RTG technology
• Detailed focus on the power and thermal subsystems, including power generation, energy distribution, heat management, and survival in a cold environment
• Preliminary sizing and definition of the remaining subsystems, including:
  • Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC/AOCS)
  • Structure and mechanisms
  • Communications
  • Data Handling System (DHS)
• Definition of system budgets, including mass and power budgets
• Preliminary accommodation and layout of subsystems at lander level, accounting for thermal, mechanical, and operational constraints

Your Qualifications

• Currently in a Master-level degree in aerospace engineering with a focus on space systems
• High motivation, pro‑active working approach and strong sense of responsibility
• Fluency in both spoken and written (business) English
• Willing to relocate to Bremen during the thesis
