For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking for Mission Operation Systems Engineer
Background:
The role operates within the Mission Operations Center (MOC), a system composed of software and hardware that supports the mission control functions of the ground segment for space systems. Typical functions of the MOC are Monitoring & Control,
Automation, Mission Planning, Configuration control and OpsPrep Functions.
The position will include tasks such as:
- Performs system engineering activities for the MOC, including technical coordination across disciplines.
- Supports integration, verification, and validation activities of MOC systems and subsystems, including: Planning Activities, preparatory activities, execution activities, reporting activities
- Change Management, Configuration and Deployment Activities
- Conducts engineering activities related to MOC monitoring and control systems.
- Designs, develops, and maintains MOC automation systems.
- Contributes to mission planning system engineering activities.
- Prepares and supports operational readiness activities for MOC systems.
- Provides technical support to end users, such as Flight Control Teams.
- General activities focused on the Mission Control & Operations and support for (MCO) sub-segment and its integration with the rest of the Ground Segment and external entities, and verification at System and Ground Segment level
You will be involved in the routine operations phase of new Programmes or missions under routine operations, where the MOC System is subject to corrective and evolutive maintenance, performing technical coordination and interacting with other engineering teams in charge of the various MOC Subsystems.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering or technical field.
- Familiarized with space mission operations, ground segment systems, or mission control systems.
- Familiar with satellite monitoring and control, and ground segment and system integration and verification procedures.
- Training in software engineering, automation, or control systems.
- Structured software development and verification knowledge.
- Software maintenance, performance monitoring experience
- Acquainted with topics related to verification and validation processes (IV&V). Requirements and verification management experience.
- Knowledge-based training in mission planning, operations preparation, or space operations concepts.
- Used to Configuration control and ECSS standards
Required skills:
- Strong knowledge of Mission Operations Systems (MOSY), including Mission Control Systems (MCS) and Mission Operations Centres (MOC).
- Experience with spacecraft simulators, flight dynamics software, mission planning tools, and ground automation systems supporting MCS/MOC testing and integration.
- Solid understanding of Telemetry and Telecommand (TM/TC) chains, including database management, data dissemination, archiving, and file transfer systems.
- Experience in system and software engineering activities, such as requirements management, architectural design, system modelling (SysML/UML), integration, and verification.
- Proficiency with CI/CD, configuration management, and application lifecycle management tools.
- Strong background in space standards, including CCSDS, ECSS, SLE, and CFDP.
- Programming skills in Java, C/C++, SQL, scripting languages (Bash, Python), and markup languages (XML, XSD, XSLT).
- Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems, virtualization, containerization (Docker), and remote access tools.
- Familiarity with version control, build, and collaboration tools (Git/GitLab, Maven/Gradle, Jira, Confluence).
- Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL/MariaDB) and Eclipse RCP-based environments.
Any of the following experience in mission operations systems will be considered as an advantage:
- Hands-on experience with ESA/MICONYS (S2K, FARC, NIS, EUD, EUD4S2K, …) Product Suite.
- Experience with Ground Automation tools (e.g. APEX, MATIS).
- Proven knowledge of ESA DBYS (TM and TC Database Management).
- Experience working with ESA EDDS (Data Dissemination) systems.
- Familiarity with ESA GFTS (Generic File Transfer Tool).
- Experience with SIM-TG based simulators.
- Experience with EUM TM Propagator (or similar tool).
Working Location
This is a full-time position to be located on-site, at EUMETSAT’s premises in Darmstadt, Germany with an expected start date as soon as possible.
