Overview

PhD researcher (m/f/x) at the Chair of Applied Microbiology in the field of technical plasmas. The position is fixed-term and part-time (26,5533 hours/week) and to be filled at the earliest possible date.

The doctoral research project aims to optimize the process of plasma-driven biocatalysis as part of the DFG Collaborative Research Center 1316 “Transient Atmospheric Pressure Plasmas - From Plasma to Liquids to Solids”.

The goal of the project is the optimization of plasma-driven biocatalysis in the context of plasma-driven biocatalysis research at RUB.

Your tasks

Establish and optimize the process of plasma-driven biocatalysis by designing, constructing, and operating a biocatalytic flow system with immobilized unspecific peroxygenases
Implement biochemical and analytical assays for characterizing the biocatalytic reactions (GC-FID, HPLC) and FPLC-based protein purifications
Present research results at national and international scientific meetings and contribute to publications in international peer-reviewed journals

Your profile

Master’s degree in Microbiology / Biology / Biochemistry / Biotechnology or related subject area
In-depth knowledge of biotechnology, biochemistry, and microbiology with hands-on experience in at least one of these areas; experience in molecular biology, GC-FID, HPLC, and protein purification is beneficial
Excellent computer skills, excellent English language skills, and strong teamwork and communication abilities

Further information

The position is salaried and based on the collective agreement of the Länder (TV-L). If requirements are met, the employee will receive pay grade E13 TV-L. Further information: (in German).

The place of work is Ruhr-Universität Bochum. If funded by third-party funds the employee has no teaching obligation. RUB language policy and opportunities: competence in German or English with willingness to learn the other; free courses provided. German language courses are offered by the University Language Center.
