Powertrain Transmission Technology Research Engineer

Duties and responsibilities

  • Powertrain Modeling and Analysis
    • Develop high-fidelity models of electric driveline power losses and conduct parametric studies to optimize design variables and drive continuous improvement.
    • Conceptual design and modeling analysis of ultra-high heat transfer drive systems for motor and transmission.
  • Research Project Management
    • Forge and maintain strategic partnerships with leading technical institutes and regional suppliers for collaborative R&D.
    • Lead the end-to-end project lifecycle: planning, execution, monitoring, status reviews, risk mitigation, and on-site oversight.
    • Track schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure projects stay on time and meet technical targets.
  • Electric Drive Technology Management
    • Monitor and analyze global technology trends across e-drive subsystems: motors, gearboxes, half-shafts, lubrication, and cooling.
    • Perform competitive benchmark studies and distill findings into regular insights reports for stakeholders.
    • Identify white-space opportunities and inform strategic roadmap decisions.
    • Research, evaluate, and prioritize breakthrough concepts in ultra-efficient thermal management, lightweight designs, and power-loss minimization for e-axles, motors, and gear sets.
    • Lead feasibility studies, technical assessments, and risk analyses of advanced solutions.
    • Collaborate closely with China-based engineering teams to co-develop, prototype, and validate high-potential concepts, ensuring seamless handoff of technical work packages into integration.

Requirements

  • Education/Experience
    • Master's degree or above, majoring in mechanical engineering, automation, mechanical electronics or a related field. PhD or 5+ years of experience at leading OEM or Tier‑1/2 supplier preferred.
    • Experience in industry-leading product development and mass production is preferred.
    • Have successful experience in geartrain or motor development, and those who develop products to achieve mass production status are preferred.
  • Knowledge
    • Solid foundation in tribology, fluid mechanics and heat transfer, experienced in physical modeling.
    • Familiar with geartrain design, NVH, efficiency and endurance analysis, being able to complete geartrain conceptual design by yourself.
    • Open mind to new technologies in both motor and related components and materials, such as copper wire, silicon steel sheets, magnets, flat wire winding and rotor technology.
  • Skills and Competencies
    • Passionate about engineering, with a strong spirit of innovation.
    • Good team worker, strong sense of responsibility, good at communication especially work in different culture.
    • Proficient in Matlab/Python programming.
    • Proactive, with pioneering spirit and a good sense of internal and external client.
    • Good command of English written and oral communication skills.
