Senior Backend Engineer [Java/Spring]

Introduction

We are looking for a motivated and creative Senior Backend Engineer to join one of our Content and Publishing teams. In this role, you will play a vital part in developing and maintaining backend systems that enhance our content publishing platform. You’ll also have the opportunity to innovate and contribute to AI-powered projects. How you will have an impact at Bonial and within our team

• Take a leading role in shaping the architecture and long‑term evolution of our highly complex, distributed systems

• Drive collaboration across teams within the Client Facing Platform product area, influencing technical and product decisions at scale

• Drive the adoption of modern engineering practices using technologies such as Java/Spring, Docker, and Kubernetes

• Design, build, and operate resilient, scalable cloud infrastructure on AWS with Terraform

• Contribute as a key member of a highly collaborative agile team, constantly raising the bar for engineering excellence

• Mentor other engineers, leading by example and fostering a culture of continuous learning and ownership

• Embody and actively promote the Bonial culture, making our principles a natural part of everyday professional life (insidebonial)

What we are looking for

• A strong end‑to‑end passion for building and operating business‑critical services

• Extensive experience with Java/Spring, Kubernetes and AWS, in microservices and event‑driven architectures

• Experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g. Camunda) is a plus

• Ability to work independently while consistently delivering high‑quality, production‑ready code

• Ability to positively influence engineering culture, including ownership of essential practices such as maintaining up‑to‑date technical documentation

• Strong communication skills, with the ability to discuss ideas and solutions openly, constructively, and with respect

• A proactive, ownership‑driven mindset, taking pride in both the quality and impact of your work

• A strong drive for continuous learning and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone

• Experience with Extreme Programming (XP) practices such as incremental design, pairing, trunk‑based development and continuous deployment is a plus

• Fluency in English
