We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Tech Operations Team and power the heart of our warehouse operations. You’ll build software that keeps our warehouses running, from unpacking parcels to grading items, picking, and wrapping orders. You’ll be part of a tight-knit team of engineers, a product manager, and an engineering manager, collaborating to bring smart, sustainable choices to thousands of users daily by connecting the digital and physical worlds.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain backend services with Kotlin and Java
• Work on our platform with a focus on performance, scalability and stability
• Design and implement systems that bridge between the digital and physical worlds
• Engage in rapid prototyping to validate assumptions quickly
• Improve architecture and best practices continuously
• Contribute ideas and participate in technical discussions
• Collaborate with peers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver features from idea to production
• Visit warehouses to understand services firsthand, observe employees, and gather feedback to improve services and UX
• Collaborate with other engineers as needed and communicate effectively to drive outcomes

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of professional backend development experience with Kotlin and Java, able to work independently with both languages
• Strong background in building scalable database architectures
• Experience building and scaling service-oriented architectures
• Excellent collaboration and ownership skills; effective communicator who values transparency
• Pragmatic: prioritizes shipping working solutions and iterating quickly
• Comfortable contributing ideas, improving processes, and shaping better user experiences
• Willing to work with other tech stacks occasionally (e.g., PHP, Angular)
• Enjoy working with a friendly team passionate about circularity and sustainability
• Comfortable in an environment with independence and new ideas; thrive with flat hierarchies and transparency
• Location: Berlin, with a hybrid model
