Freelance Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Duration = 12 Months +

Location = Germany - Brandenburg - near Polish border

Working Style = Hybrid, some remote and some on site, depending on stage of project.

My client is a large project developer in the renewables energy sector in Germany. They are looking for a Freelance Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join them for the next 12 months (with a view to extension) as the funding for the project has been secured. The role involves development, design, build and commissioning of one of Europe’s largest battery energy storage projects in the BESS sub‑industry.

Requirements

• Strong Electrical Engineering background with a minimum of 5 years of post‑qualification experience on relevant projects.
• Ideally experience within energy/renewables/BESS projects.
• Design the electrical layout such as all cables, switchgear, transformers, inverters and grid connection.
• Ensure compliance with the electrical grid and meet German and EU high‑voltage standards.
• Support site permitting by providing technical drawings and specifications for approvals.
• Work with contractors/sub‑contractors and oversee all electrical installation work to ensure a smooth build.
• Must be able to work as a freelancer in the EU – preferably with experience on similar projects in Germany or neighbouring countries.
• Fluent English required; German B2/C1 preferred but not essential.
