Responsibilities

• Define and build the sustainability layer of an open‑source infrastructure platform.
• Research, validate, and assess concepts such as sustainability‑aware scheduling, photonics chips, federated heterogeneous clouds, and heat reuse from data centers to offices.
• Work on both technical implementation and conceptual questions: determining which sustainability dimensions matter, how to measure them, and how to make trade‑offs transparent.
• Act as a key architect shaping how sustainability becomes embedded in the future of European cloud infrastructure.

What you bring

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Several years of full‑stack and infrastructure development experience, demonstrating progressive responsibility in development projects.
• Experience in architecting and designing software projects.
• Strong cloud infrastructure and distributed systems expertise, including RESTful API design and Kubernetes.
• Background or demonstrated interest in sustainability, or systems thinking (academic background preferred, but practical experience valued).
• Fluent in English (written and verbal); good in German (written and verbal).

Nice‑to‑have skills

• Contributions to open‑source projects focused on standards or observability.
• Experience in mission‑driven organizations or public‑interest tech.
• Experience with SAP cloud technology, GPUs, and AI.
