Job Description Summary

For Grid Solutions, Offshore HVDC represents a key differentiating technology and a central focus for the business, particularly in Europe where Transmission System Operators have very ambitious renewable energy targets. In that context and for Germany, Grid Solutions is partnering with TenneT, which plans to invest more than $30B by 2030 in deploying new HVDC converter stations to bring Offshore Wind energy into Germany and the Netherlands.

In this context, Grid Solutions is looking for a Senior Project Manager – Offshore platform who will oversee large packages as part of a portfolio of several mega HVDC projects in Germany (contracts value > $1B). The Senior Project Manager will be directly responsible for a large strategic work package worth several hundreds of million euros, including the delivery of the HVDC offshore platform interfacing with our platform partner, McDermott. The Senior Project Manager – Offshore will be responsible for his project/work package’s on-time delivery, profit & loss accountability, and customer satisfaction through management of project-related activities and resources. She/He will provide leadership to strategically manage risks & opportunities and ensure that the project/work package follows high standards in terms of quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Major Responsibilities

Manage the execution phase for a large GE work-package of one mega HVDC Project in Germany > $1B. The offshore platform concentrates a lot of technology on a very limited space: sequencing of activities is key, quick decision making is mandatory and every interface is crucial.
Follow progress of offshore topside, ensure equipment delivery on time and quality (take care of requirements from Marine technical specifications).
Ensure that McDermott receives all our mechanical data in order to finalize topside structural design.
Study McDermott planning and ensure all tasks are secured (till cable connections).
Work closely with interface manager to capture every interdependency between topside and our equipment.
Deliver on Environmental Health & Safety (‘EHS’), On-Time Delivery (‘OTD’) and financial objectives (sales, margin, billing, cash) for the GE scope.
Ensure project reviews governance in line with GE Grid Solutions operating rhythm with a key focus on risks management and related mitigation plans.
Lead & coach a multicultural cross-functional project team composed of Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Project Controls (cost & planning), Finance, Contract Management.
Contribute to the overall strategy for the execution of the project to achieve the project performance goals, based on the contract.
Represent GE towards the customer; control and manage this interface and relationship; manage the internal and external communication loop; coordinate with consortium partner.
Set up and secure the necessary resources for the execution of the project/work package; support the organization of the project team.
Constantly monitor and, if requested, report the necessary key performance indicators (KPIs); take immediately all necessary actions and decisions to guarantee financial, time, quality and safety performance to maximize project goals achievements.
Establish, implement and monitor the Project Quality Plan, procedures, EHS Plan; ensure best compliance with specifications at lowest final cost.
Support the strategy for managing claims and direct actions accordingly; address claims by deciding on actions and leading them in consideration of the defined strategy.
Define a risk management plan; constantly update and review the risk and opportunities of the project; evaluate and decide on actions that benefit the overall performance of the project; follow up on the implementation and results.
Develop and monitor the master time schedule; manage project float to ensure timely completion of the project.
Exercise commercial and finance controls during the execution of the project with regular reporting and forecasting of project metrics and KPIs.
Ensure coordination of technical support/engineering, manufacturing/supply and onsite construction resources.

Qualifications / Requirements

Master’s or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college, preferably a technical degree.
Minimum of 10 years managing large and complex turnkey projects (+$100M minimum), preferably in the T&D, Power, or Renewable Energy industry.
Experience in turnkey contracts.
German language & willing to be based in Berlin.

Technical knowledge in high‑voltage electrical grids and ideally power electronics / HVDC is an advantage.
Experience in offshore projects is an advantage.
Willingness and ability to travel (Europe & Asia).
Fluent in English; German language is a decisive advantage.
